Half Day Qualification In Oxygen Administration & Airway Management
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility to be able to safely administer and monitor the effects of emergency oxygen within their scope of practice.
The aim of the Oxygen Therapy and Basic Life Support course is to enable learners to safely and correctly administer Oxygen. The course provides a review of Basic Life Support techniques, before moving on to the safe use of Oxygen. The course also covers airway management in more depth that on a standard First Aid Course.
Who Should Take This Qualification ?
You should take this course if you are interesting in, or have a need to administer oxygen. This may be because you are, or employ people who are, working in a confined space, for example tank cleaning operations or working in sewers. Also, where there is a risk of exposure to certain chemicals and gases, such as hydrogen cyanide, then Oxygen Administration is recommended (See The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981. Guidance on Regulation, page 34).
There are no prerequisites for this course. You will be required to complete practical activities & assessments during the Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Oxygen. Learners do not need good literacy skills to complete the Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Oxygen, but there will be a multiple choice paper at the end of the course. What Will I Learn ?
During the Oxygen Therapy and Basic Life Support course you will learn how and when to administer oxygen to a casualty. You will also learn the safety concerns with carrying, storing and administering oxygen. Time is spent reviewing basic life support before learning how to include oxygen in the CPR and resuscitation process. New equipment such as airway adjuncts, bag valve mask (BVM) and pulse oximeters are introduced and discussed.
The Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Oxygen has one unit that learners are required to complete.

The Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Oxygen usually takes half a day to complete.

Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator
The Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator is designed to enable Learners to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely. As this is a half day qualification, ideally you will already hold a first aid qualification.
Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support for Adults and Children
The Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support for Adults and Children (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed to equip candidates with the essential skills needed to administer safe, prompt and effective basic life support in an emergency situation.
