The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work is based on the HSE training standard for delivery of First Aid at Work courses for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, and is recognised and accepted by the HSE. Our Blended Learning program allows the completion of part of the course via our e-Learning platform. The learner then attends 2 days of face to face training to complete the practical elements of the qualification.

Qualification Summary

The aim of the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Blended Learning) is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider.

Whats blended Learning ?

As a blended learning qualification, you will complete this course is two halves:

  1. You will complete a number of hours of self study via our on-line eLearning platform. This will usually take about 6 hours to complete, but can be completed in small chunks at your convenience.
  2. You will attend two days of face-to-face training. During these sessions you will perform all the practical aspects of the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Blended Learning), along with re-enforcing your knowledge from the eLearning sessions.

Who Should Take This Qualification ?

You should take this course if you are required to complete a First Aid at Work course for the purpose of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) regulations 1981. This may mean that you have assessed your working environment and decided that you need one (or more) full First Aid at Work Qualified persons on site.


There are no prerequisites for this course.

You will be required to complete practical activities & assessments during the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Blended Learning). Learners should be physically capable of performing this tasks, which may include bending, kneeling and lying on the floor. If you qualification or course includes a CPR assessment, this will be required to be completed on the floor and may last for a minimum of 2 mins.

Learners do not need good literacy skills to complete the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Blended Learning), but there will be a multiple choice paper at the end of the course. Should anyone experience difficulties with this style of assessment this can be completed verbally in certain circumstances. Please contact us for further details. We would strongly recommend that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

For learners with English as a second language, a small pocket dictionary may be useful to help translate. If you feel you would benefit from receiving any course materials prior to starting your training then please get in touch.

Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training.

What Will I Learn ?

During the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Blended Learning) you will completed two units.

The first will teach you to deal with emergency situations in the work place, such as performing CPR or dealing with someone who is choking. You will also learn how to be a good first aider, and how to deal with a first aid situation.

The second unit will help you deal with illness and further injury in the work place. Topics such as Heart Attacks, Strokes, Epilepsy & Diabetes are covered, along with further insight into injuries such as burns, fractures and wounds.

The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Blended Learning) has two units that learners are required to complete.

    • CPR And Safe Use Of An AED
    • Choking Casualty
    • Wounds, Bleeding And Shock
    • Catastrophic Bleeding (Optional Extra)
    • Multiple Choice Question Paper – Theory
  • Recognition And Management Of Illness And Injury In The Workplace (4 Assessments)
    • Anaphylaxis
    • Secondary Survey
    • Management Of Fractures
    • Multiple Choice Question Paper – Theory

The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Blended Learning) usually takes approximately 6 hours on-line followed by two days face-to-face to complete.
