The 2 day (12 hour) Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is based on the Ofsted guidelines for people who work with, or look after, children to enable them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with emergency first aid situations. Our Blended Learning program allows the completion of part of the course via our e-Learning platform. The learner then attends 1 day of face to face training to complete the practical elements of the qualification.

Qualification Summary

The aim of the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (Blended Learning) is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations specifically associated with children and babies. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider and the specific requirements of dealing with a sick or injured child or baby.

It is suitable for those who require a first aid qualification to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with EYFS requirements.

What Is blended Learning ?

As a blended learning qualification, you will complete this course is two halves:

  1. You will complete a number of hours of self study via our on-line eLearning platform. This will usually take about 6 hours to complete, but can be completed in small chunks at your convenience.
  2. You will attend one day of face-to-face training. During this session you will perform all the practical aspects of the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (Blended Learning), along with re-enforcing your knowledge from the eLearning sessions.

Who Should Take This Qualification ?

The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (Blended Learning) has been specifically designed to meet the criteria set by the Department for Education’s EYFS Framework and is ideal for:

  • Those who have gained a level 2 and/or level 3 childcare qualification and have entered into an early years setting and wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with EYFS requirements.
  • Registered childminders and assistants who are required to hold a current and full paediatric first aid certificate in order to comply with the EYFS requirements.
  • Anyone who has a non-professional involvement with infants and children, such as parents and grandparents who want to learn key paediatric first aid skills.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites to attend the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (Blended Learning)

You will be required to complete practical activities & assessments during the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (Blended Learning). Learners should be physically capable of performing this tasks, which may include bending, kneeling and lying on the floor. If you qualification or course includes a CPR assessment, this will be required to be completed on the floor and may last for a minimum of 2 mins.

Learners do not need good literacy skills to complete the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (Blended Learning), but there will be a multiple choice paper at the end of the course. Should anyone experience difficulties with this style of assessment this can be completed verbally in certain circumstances. Please contact us for further details. We would strongly recommend that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

For learners with English as a second language, a small pocket dictionary may be useful to help translate. If you feel you would benefit from receiving any course materials prior to starting your training then please get in touch.

Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training.

What Will I Learn ?

During the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (Blended Learning) you will complete two units.

The first will teach you to deal with emergency situations involving children and babies, such as performing CPR or dealing with a choking child. You will also learn how to be a good first aider, how to deal with a first aid situation and the unique requirements of caring for children and babies.

The second unit will help you deal with illness and further injury to children and babies. Topic such as Spinal Injuries, Poisoning, Extremes of Heat and Chronic Medical Conditions are covered, along with further insight into injuries such as burns, fractures and wounds.

The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) (Blended Learning) has two unit that learners are required to complete.

  • Emergency Paediatric First Aid (7 Assessments)
    • Infant CPR and safe use of an AED
    • Child CPR and safe use of an AED
    • Choking casualty
    • Paediatric wounds, bleeding and shock
    • Unconscious casualty
    • Catastrophic Bleeding (Optional Extra)
    • Multiple Choice Question Paper – Theory
  • Managing Paediatric Illness, Injuries And Emergencies (3 Assessments)
    • Management of paediatric fractures
    • Management Of Anaphylaxis
    • Multiple Choice Question Paper – Theory
