Qualification Summary

The aim of the Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) FREC 3 is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to work as a First Responder. It is ideal for those who wish to work within the Event Medical or Close Protection Sectors, or as a stepping stone to working within the private medical world in roles such as Patient Transport. It replaces the Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care.

Who Should Take This Qualification ?

You should take this qualification if you are working (or plan to work) within the private medical sector. It is ideal for those working within the event environment, but can also be suitable for those looking for Patient Transport work or those in the security, event stewarding and close protection sectors.

The Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) FREC 3 is also recognised by the HSE as meeting the requirements for First Aid at Work.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites to attend the Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) FREC 3

You will be required to complete practical activities & assessments during the Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) FREC 3. Learners should be physically capable of performing this tasks, which may include bending, kneeling and lying on the floor. If you qualification or course includes a CPR assessment, this will be required to be completed on the floor and may last for a minimum of 2 mins.

Learners do not need good literacy skills to complete the Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) FREC 3, but there will be a multiple choice paper at the end of the course. Should anyone experience difficulties with this style of assessment this can be completed verbally in certain circumstances. Please contact us for further details. We would strongly recommend that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

For learners with English as a second language, a small pocket dictionary may be useful to help translate. If you feel you would benefit from receiving any course materials prior to starting your training then please get in touch.

Learners must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the training.

Learners will be expected to complete approximately 14hours of pre-course reading on the following topics:

  • Principles of communication
  • Consent and capacity
  • Information governance
  • Patient assessment (primary and secondary surveys)
  • Health and safety in their environment
  • Duty of care, scope of practice and accountability

What Will I Learn ?

The Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) FREC 3 has one unit with three mandatory components that Learners are required to complete in order to achieve the qualification. These will cover Patient Assessment and Management, Emergency Trauma and Focused Emergency and Urgent Care.
