Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid

12 Hour Paediatric First Aid Qualification

The 2 day (12 hour) Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is based on the Ofsted guidelines for people who work with, or look after, children to enable them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with emergency first aid situations. The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations which can arise when working with or looking after children. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the paediatric first aider.

Qualification Summary

The aim of the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations specifically associated with children and babies. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider and the specific requirements of dealing with a sick or injured child or baby.

Who Should Take This Qualification ?

You should take this course if you work with, look after or have a responsibility for children and / or babies.  This may mean that you work to the guidelines laid down in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) or to local authority requirements.  Alternatively, you may just wish to learn more about administering First Aid to children and babies.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course. You will be required to complete practical activities & assessments during the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid. Learners do not need good literacy skills to complete the course or qualification, but there will be a multiple choice paper at the end of the course. Should anyone experience difficulties with this style of assessment this can be completed verbally in certain circumstances. Please contact us for further details.

What Will I Learn ?

During the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid you will complete two units.  The first will teach you to deal with emergency situations involving children and babies, such as performing CPR or dealing with a choking child.  You will also learn how to be a good first aider, how to deal with a first aid situation and the unique requirements of caring for children and babies.  The second unit will help you deal with illness and further injury to children and babies.  Topic such as Spinal Injuries,  Poisoning, Extremes of Heat and Chronic Medical Conditions are covered, along with further insight into injuries such as burns, fractures and wounds.

Qualification Structure

The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid has two units that learners are required to complete in order to achieve the qualification.

  • Emergency Paediatric First Aid
  • Managing paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies
This qualification is two days in duration.
